first love

I was having nothing to do, so I surf the Net (during office hour, so what?!), and I came across this website calle Project Sitiawan. Hell, I don't even know about this 'project' and I am a Sitiawanian! Apparently, it is a private project initiated to network Sitiawan people (Sitiawanians) around the world. Other than a few links and a forum to discuss the 'interesting' places in Sitiawan, there's no other way for us Sitiawanians to interact with each other, so it doesn't matter.

However, I happened to chance upon the photo gallery featuring pics from my alma matter, SRK Methodist ACS and SMK Methodist ACS. It has been years since I last stepped foot into my old schools. The last time was after I just got accepted into University, and that was 5 years ago. Even then, it felt awkward as the faces I saw were unfamiliar, then back then in school I was not really a popular student. Good, quiet, but not really outstanding and nor favourite of the teachers. Imagine how time flies. From what I heard most of my ex-teachers have already retired, leaving behind a team of younger but less experienced teachers for the job. Lets take a photo journey back to my old schools, shall we?

Primary School

The road that leads into the school compound. To the right of the road is the primary school while to the left is the secondary school. The building at the end of the road is our primary school's Hall (Dewan Sekolah). This was where we attended our prize-giving ceremonies at the end of each academic year, and also where we sat for our UPSR paper.

Close up of the hall. Usually it remains closed and deserted. One of the spookiest place in the whole school. It was said that war prisoners during the Japanese Occupation were executed in this hall.

One of the oldest buildings in the school. There were two classes on the first floor of the building. The earliest student to reach the school before the sky is light, who used this classroom, had to walk up the flight of wooden stairs in pitch darkness, enter the room and switch on the lights. This was also a 'hot' spot for numerous spooky encounters.

One of the newer buildings in the school. The library is located on the first floor. This was also where we were forced to take our BCG shots (Tuberculosis vaccine). The orange colored wall seen in the photo at the far end of the building was where they posted our UPSR results. Everyone flocked there when the results were out.

The classrooms. The row at the right hand side is for the Primary 1 students, the middle row for Primary 2 students while the left hand side row is for the Primary 3 students. The field and the basketball court were surrounded by the classrooms, and this was where we played and have our PE.

Behind the 'sheds' next to the contennas we used to had our tooth-brushing sessions, where once every few months or so each student will get a new tooth brush and a tube of Colgate tooth paste, and we will all brush our teeths together. And there will be a dentist demonstrating to us the proper way of brushing our teeth with a giant teeth replica.

Secondary School

The ground floor of the building on the right was our science laboratory for Form 4 and Form 5 students. We had lots of fun experimenting with the chemicals and apparatus in these labs, even though some of the experiments went bad! The smaller building on the left was our oh-so-beloved male toilet, favourite hang-out place, best place to freshen up during a boring classroom hour.

The 'koperasi' bookstore, where we got our supplies of exercise books, stationeries and school badges.

One of the two canteens in our secondary school. The favourite foods has to be the sardine karipap and fried sotong balls in curry!

This is where the teachers' bitch about us students.

Dewan ACS II, this was where we had our weekly perhimpunan (assemblies). Very often someone will faint down during the assemblies due to the long speeches, no-sitting policy and congested space, not to mention B.O. The near side of the hall is our library.
